I needed more covered benchroom to get trays up and growing before autumn hit, so I ordered this tunnel to expand our small patch. The clear 6 mil EVA film lets a lot of light through while still diffusing harsh midday sun. Unpacking and laying out the galvanized frame pieces felt straightforward, and the walk-through bi-parting doors at each end are a real help when moving trolleys of pots. The shelter holds heat overnight compared with open beds, and germination rates on chill-sensitive seeds went up noticeably. One practical gripe: some of the longer frame sections are heavy and awkward to manoeuvre alone, so plan for a second pair of hands.
Plenty of usable space without the cramped edges we fought in our old setup. The roll-up sides have been especially handy during warmer spells here in New South Wales.
We put it up beside the veggie patch and the footprint gave us enough room to split tomatoes down one side and trays of lettuce and herbs down the other. The walk-through doors at both ends make it easy to move barrows and irrigation bits straight through. Only gripe is a few small paint blemishes on some frame pieces out of the pack, but nothing that affected assembly.
Unpacking it in the driveway, the scale of the frame was the first thing I noticed. I set up benches for about 200 tomato seedlings and still had room for a wheelbarrow to pass through the bi-parting doors. The only annoying point was the crate arrived scuffed, nothing missing but a few dented panels to touch up. Two people assembled the frame over a weekend.
Airflow is the part I appreciate most. The roll-up sides clear heat quickly on warm afternoons, and the frame gives us enough room to keep rows accessible without feeling boxed in.
We anchored it into concrete footings as recommended and it hasn't budged through a few solid blows. The film still looks clear with no stretching around the clamps. Assembly took us two days at a relaxed pace with three people.
Compared to quotes for a built greenhouse this was a fraction of the cost for the same floor area. Instructions could be clearer in a couple of spots around the purlin joins, but the parts were all labelled and nothing was missing.
Basil and chillies that used to sulk through the cool months are now producing right through. The hand crank sides make temperature control easy without running fans all day.
